It would be difficult to come up with my favorite quote, as there are so many, but right now it would have to be by Dr. Carl Menninger, “Fears are educated into us, and can, if we wish, be educated out.” I am passionate about Rock Solid because I love impacting lives, both those of the campers and of our staff.
Staff Director—Shreveport, Jamie Gilley
Jamie is from Shreveport, LA and is completing his collegiate experience at Louisiana Tech University where he is a starting pitcher for the Tech Bulldogs, majoring in Sociology. Jamie is in his 2nd year of management at Rock Solid, serving his first year as the Manager of the Airport Park pool and has since been named as the Rock Solid Staff Director. Jamie claims Sam Walker to be the person who has impacted his life the most because of his love for people and the Lord.Jamie’s favorite quote is, “Practice doesn’t make perfect, Perfect practice makes perfect.” Jamie loves working at Rock Solid because, “I know nobody is perfect and we all have our flaws and after everyone tried to bring us down, we became stronger.”
Sports Director—Shreveport, Ben Barcelona
Ben is from Bossier City, LA and is completing his collegiate experience at Centenary College where he is majoring in Math and also is a Soccer player for the Gents. Ben is entering his 4th summer with Rock Solid and will be completing his 1st summer as our Sports Director. Ben knows much about the life of sports as he has enjoyed a great soccer career, owning the most goals in a career (99) record for Parkway High School and was a 2-time All State First Team selection, 3-time All District First Team selection, 2-time All-District MVP and 3-time All-City First Team selection. Ben credits his parents (Mark and Debbie) for impacting his life the most as they have shown him how to lead a Christ-like life, as well as how to be successful at everything he does. “They have shown me how to be a man of God and have been the best role models I could ever ask for.” Ben’s favorite quote is by Michael Jordan, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Ben loves this as he believes it explains no matter how many times you get something wrong, if you work hard and continue to have the strength and courage to try again, you will succeed! Ben loves working at Rock Solid because “I enjoy trying to make a positive impact on children’s lives. There are so many children that come to Rock Solid through a Summer, and I consider it a privilege to be able to try and make an impact on their life, so they will always remember how great of a camp Rock Solid actually is. This will be my 4th year working at Rock Solid, and I look for it to be the best yet!!”

Administrator—Shreveport, Katie Roach
Katie Roach is from Shreveport, LA. She is beginning her 3rd year with Rock Solid and has served this year as an incredible Administrator and organizer to the program. Katie is a fan favorite amongst campers and counselors alike as she is the person responsible for the “Princess pageant.” Katie credits Will Mathews (as he was an awesome servant in the camp world that God called home August 15, 2010. Will left a legacy that has not only impact me, but a community) and Shelley McMillian because no one has pushed me harder than she has. Katie’s favorite quote is by Taylor Swift, “To me, FEARLESS is not the absence of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, FEARLESS is having fears. FEARLESS is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, FEARLESS is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.” Katie loves working at Rock Solid for many reasons but “pageant week” is her favorite as she feels there is nothing like seeing a little girl who is shy and quiet walk across a stage in a beautiful dress, and in that moment, know she is beautiful and loved.
