Registration is steady flowing for both summer camp and swim lessons. Get registered while there is still space. We are pumped about impacting the life of your child, as we get ready for our 11th summer, which is surely to be the best EVER!
Dr Suess, in his infinite wisdom to educate kids once said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.” As I ponder the past year and all that our nation has experienced, from the economic fears to personal loss to shootings in public places, I am once again reminded of the important role that Rock Solid plays in our community, both through our camps and the operation of the city pools. As we approach our 10th summer, it is easy to seek out the adversity and the uncertainty that comes with impacting lives. We have camp families who have lost loved ones to horrific tragedies, we lost another former staff member in July and we constantly see kids who must bear the burden of their parent’s bad life decisions and/or “unlucky” life circumstances. In the midst of hard times–the impact, the success stories, the laughter of kids, the relationships with staff and camper parents, the memories–is still enough to bring a smile to my face. Impacting lives helps me/us realize that each of us have so much to be thankful for as we begin a new year. Sure, many of us are surviving a tough life, but if we look hard enough through a perspective of impact, we will see hope that humankind has not lost empathy towards others and we are not completely a society turning inwards. In fact, in a year of tribulation, many people have seen humanity grow and give even in a down economy. The ripple effect is that people helping people increases the number of people able to be productive to society, increases the number of people helping others in need and it just keeps building. And as others get better around us, so do we. My prayer is that 2013 will be a year that on the 10th anniversary of Rock Solid, we will become better, we will impact more lives than imaginable and that we will be a staff of ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Thank you so much for each of you who continuously support us by your giving, your prayers, sending your children or visiting one of our 5 pools. ”The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shades you don’t expect to sit.”
